Results from 2013 Ft Worth Stock Show Junior Hereford Division

W5 Herefords was represented well at the 2013 Southwestern Livestock Show and Rodeo in Fort Worth. On Saturday, the afternoon started with Polled Hereford Females followed by Horned Herefords.  Ryan Cotton of Florida evaluated the cattle.

We had three heifers at the junior show.  Hannah VanWinkle started the afternoon with her February heifer.  She took 5th place with W5 Ms Gran 469Y.  This yellow heifer has a very cool front, long neck and is super shouldered.  She is very expressive in her mid section and is extremely capacious.  She should be fantastic as a cow.  She is very refined and thus does not carry the massive muscle expression on her rear end.  She is out of a great cow family will make a great cow herself.  Congratulations Hannah.

Ben VanWinkle competed in the September class of Hereford Females.  Ben has had good success with the heifer and was ready to show the judge what he had.  Cotton said that the heifer was a very complete heifer and put her in the 3rd place spot in the class.  Ben and the entire family was very excited.  Lucy - as Ben calls W5 Ms Dogwood 454D was excited as well about the placing but not the hour and a half for the picture wait.  She was very happy to get back to the stall.  Congratulations Ben.

Levi Singleton of Vidor,  purchased one of my favorite heifers from the 2011 calf crop - W5 Ms Dogwood 448D She is a very, very dark colored conservatively marked female.  She is big boned and should be a tremendous producer.  She is an August born female out of W5 Overtime 400J. She was in a class that aged from June through August.  She stood second in the line up when finished.  Congratulations Levi.
Here is Levi's heifer in tie outs.  Look at the extreme length from hooks to pins.  Wow

Congratulations to each one for your accomplishments at Fort Worth and best wishes at the rest of the majors this year!

Working "Overtime" with the Future in Mind

This is the first introduction of the Fall 2012 Calf Crop.  We are very impressed with the offspring by W5 Overtime 400J.  The picture below was taken in October 2011.

This next picture was taken in Jan of 2009.
Impressive as a calf and impressive as a 2 year old.
More impressive as a herd bull.  Check out some of the fall calf crop.

And they have sisters as well as a few brothers.

The cows have done their job to get the calves here.  They are happy cows providing this select group of calves a great jump start for their future.

Stop by and see these for yourself.  They are pretty awesome as show prospects and additions to any cow herd.  Give us a call.
