East Texas State Fair 2013 Results

We had a great set of cattle at the 2013 East Texas State Fair.  Leading off the line up was -S W5 Gran Torino 4249 Y14.  Dennis - was we call him  is an exceptional individual.  He was the Texas Polled Hereford Reserve Champion Bull in 2011, the Reserve Champion Hereford Bull at the 2012 State Fair of Louisiana and stood as Grand Champion of the 2013 East Texas State Fair.  His unique bloodlines of  C -S Gran Torino 8172 and Boomer P606 combines for a great genetic package.  But none of that matters if the phenotype doesn't work.  This one works!  Take a look at him.

Semen is available on him.  His first calves are on the ground and are tremendous.  Heifers bred to him are calving with an average birth weight of 55lbs.  Mature cows are calving with an average birth weight of 80 lbs.

His little brother W5 Incentive 466D, sired by W5 Overtime 400J, stood Reserve Champion at the show.  He too is a unique individual.  He is a beautiful deep red.  He is as long as a freight train with tremendous style.  Since his genetic package is so close to that of his brother, we are offering him for sale.  Contact us for more information on this outstanding individual.

Other results include: Champion Intermediate Bull with W5 Incentive 471D,  Reserve Champion Fall Bull Calf with W5 Advance 482S.  We had a great bull show and thank the Lord for His favor.  We were named Premier Exhibitor and Premier Breeders as well as receiving Best Six Head.  This was also Boaz's first show.  He and Zella had imprinted a heifer when she was less than a day old.  Zella named her Sally; Sally has always loved them and so we decided to use her as Boaz's first heifer to ensure a great first experience.  She was part of the group that took Best Six Head.

Here is Sally getting her second bath by the two most influential people in her life.

It was a great show followed by much needed rain.  Thank you Lord!

It's Been a While Since the Last Post

Since the last posting,  Levi Singleton took first place with his heifer in the summer class at the Houston Livestock Show.

The Overtime 400J and 403J heifers have grown out with the first set all having calves.  The 2012 crop was another outstanding set of females.  We want to thank all of the buyers including:

Emileigh Singleton
Dylan and Dalton Cleveland
Hannah Vanwinkle

Ben Vanwinkle is showing his bred and owned sired by one of our bulls, and is still showing his senior heifer purchased from us last year.

May each of you have great success with your heifers.

Thanks to Our Bull Buyers

We want to thank Ryan Williams of Bradley, Arkansas for purchasing 2 two year old bulls.  These are Overtime brothers.  We have used several Overtime brothers in our operation during the past two years.  These bulls add dimension and muscle to their offspring.

Greg Williams of Doddridge, Arkansas for purchasing a 3 year old bull.  This bull is from the Shock Hereford program.  We purchased him as a calf to put on heifers.  He has done a great job for us.

Thanks to both buyers.  We know the bulls will work great for your programs.

We do still have a limited selection of young bulls for sale.  Call for details.

Results from 2013 Ft Worth Stock Show Junior Hereford Division

W5 Herefords was represented well at the 2013 Southwestern Livestock Show and Rodeo in Fort Worth. On Saturday, the afternoon started with Polled Hereford Females followed by Horned Herefords.  Ryan Cotton of Florida evaluated the cattle.

We had three heifers at the junior show.  Hannah VanWinkle started the afternoon with her February heifer.  She took 5th place with W5 Ms Gran 469Y.  This yellow heifer has a very cool front, long neck and is super shouldered.  She is very expressive in her mid section and is extremely capacious.  She should be fantastic as a cow.  She is very refined and thus does not carry the massive muscle expression on her rear end.  She is out of a great cow family will make a great cow herself.  Congratulations Hannah.

Ben VanWinkle competed in the September class of Hereford Females.  Ben has had good success with the heifer and was ready to show the judge what he had.  Cotton said that the heifer was a very complete heifer and put her in the 3rd place spot in the class.  Ben and the entire family was very excited.  Lucy - as Ben calls W5 Ms Dogwood 454D was excited as well about the placing but not the hour and a half for the picture wait.  She was very happy to get back to the stall.  Congratulations Ben.

Levi Singleton of Vidor,  purchased one of my favorite heifers from the 2011 calf crop - W5 Ms Dogwood 448D She is a very, very dark colored conservatively marked female.  She is big boned and should be a tremendous producer.  She is an August born female out of W5 Overtime 400J. She was in a class that aged from June through August.  She stood second in the line up when finished.  Congratulations Levi.
Here is Levi's heifer in tie outs.  Look at the extreme length from hooks to pins.  Wow

Congratulations to each one for your accomplishments at Fort Worth and best wishes at the rest of the majors this year!
